Wireless Network Device Policy

Haslett Public Schools has wireless Internet and network access available in its school buildings.  The wireless is configured for a public network and a private network.  Below are policies related to the wireless network.

Public Wireless Network and Personal Devices

  • The public wireless network is similar to what you would find in a coffee shop.  Anyone can connect to the network using personal laptops, iPads, and/or other wireless devices and browse the Internet without entering a username or access key.
  • When connecting to the public wireless, Internet sites will be filtered at the student level (i.e., sites such as YouTube will be blocked).
  • The technology department will not provide technical support to students or staff who are having difficulty connecting to the public wireless network using personal laptops, iPads and/or other wireless devices.
  • The district is not responsible for theft, damage or loss of personal laptops, iPads and/or other wireless devices.

Private Wireless Network

  • The private wireless network allows users with district-owned equipment to login and access network directories, printers, and other network services.
  • Only district-owned laptops, iPads and/or other wireless devices will be allowed to connect to the private wireless network.
  • When logging into the private wireless, Internet sites will be filtered based on the filter group the user is in (e.g., staff members will be able to access YouTube, students will not).
  • The technology department will provide technical support to students and staff who are having difficulty connecting to the wireless network using district-owned laptops, iPads and/or other wireless devices.
